Life before Baby
Was there a life before baby? It's so hard to remember now, but apparently there was. Here are a few highlights...
Things got started again for the first time for us at our 10 year high school reunion. Here we are with a bunch of our friends from the Glory Days (per Bruce Springsteen).
Before Randy met Anita, there was just the bottle... And the natural splendor of the western wilds too, I suppose. That wasn't so bad.
Randy spent a fair chunk of the '90s working at Sam the Record man. The job had its perks (discounted CDs), but on the other hand, you had to do things like pretend to be excited about meeting Ashely MacIsaac.
Anita is also a talented visual artist - her favoured medium is cake. Here she is with a portrait of Pierre Trudeau.
One thing we have in common is a healthy dose of Scottish blood. Here's the Lawson clan (Anita's extended family on her mother's side) at the big 2003 family reunion on the farm in Miami, Manitoba.
Baby is well-positioned to join the educated middle class. Here's Anita and her friend Jenny Taylor graduating with a Master's degree in Germanic Studies from UBC in 2003.
Like the good German that she is, Anita loves a brisk hike (as does Randy, grudgingly). Here she is conquering Mt. Seymour with her dad Karl, and family friend Marketa.
Cruising North Van on Randy's 31st birthday. Good friends Dan and Pam, Anita, Randy's best buddy (and best man) Justin, and his daughter Saoirse.
Enjoying some pre-wedding frolics at Jericho Beach with the Zaenker-Martells (Lorelei, Rosalie, Cecilia and Karl) and Anita's Swedish friends the Eckersteins (Michael and Ylva).
For our Honeymoon we went to Anita's brother, Peter's, wedding in Western Ukraine. Here we are with Aunt Ludmilla and Uncle Peter.
The monkeys in the Ukraine are very friendly and polite. For those of you who can't read Cyrillic, this is in Lviv.
In addition to Bike Pump, Anita plays violin in the West Coast Symphony. Here she is (second from left) playing, with Peter as featured soloist on guitar.
Nettie and Cornelius - good friends of ours and talented web-designers (this website is their handiwork).
In July 2005 the Gatley clan went on an Alaska cruise. Here we are on formal night (sister Crystal and husband Derek, brother Darren and wife Celina, mom Gloria, and Dad behind the camera).
Another photo from the cruise. This is Randy's dad Wayne being serenaded on his birthday. You'd think we spent all our time eating.
Periodically we take a trip down to one of our favorite cities, Portland, Oregon, to visit our close friends the Sweet-Chavezes (AKA the Kyla-Sergios). Here they are with Anita at the bottom of a very big dune.
Every Christmas Randy tries unsuccessfully to set himself on fire while carrying in the Christmas Pudding, a role he inherited from his grandfather Wilfrid.
